The Song of Agilouz

The Song of Agilouz

Mohammed Benzakour

When Mohammed Benzakour learns that his mother will never fully recover from a stroke, he takes a walk in the park, his spirits low. Suddenly, he hears a jubilant sound. From a nearby treetop, a little bird chirps as if to cheer him up. For Benzakour, this marks the beginning of a deep love for birds. When he learns that in the bird paradise of Indonesia, there are more birds in cages than in the wild, he decides to take matters into his own hands and packs his bags. But how wise is that? Is it justified to secretly release other people’s birds?

The Song of Agilouz is a lyrical picaresque. An inspiring ode to freedom, wildness, and dreams.
