Josepha Mendels (Groningen, 1902 – Eindhoven, 1995) grew up in an Orthodox Jewish family. She became a governess and started writing as a journalist. For I Told You So she could write from her experiences as an exile. It is her only novel set in WWII. After her release from a Spanish jail, she went to London for the remainder of the war.
