Joost de Vries (1983) works as an editor at the Dutch magazine De Groene Amsterdammer. His second novel, The Republic, won the Gouden Boeken Uil and was nominated for the BNG Literatuurprijs and the Libris Literatuur Prijs. The Republic will be translated into ten languages. His essay 'A Room of My Own' was featured in The Penguin Book of Dutch Short Stories (Penguin Modern Classics).
