Jan van Mersbergen

Jan van Mersbergen (1971) wrote his debut in 2001 with the novel The Grass Eater. The jury for the Debutanten Prize immediately nominated it. To the Other Side of the Night was awarded the BNG New Literature Prize and received a nomination for the Libris Literature Prize, the AKO Literature Prize and the Golden Book Owl. A movie based on To the Other Side of the Night came out in the fall of 2014, and the film rights for Tomorrow Pamplona have recently been sold to the London-based production company, First Born Films. Publishers in Germany, the UK, France, Turkey, Serbia, Slovenia, and Spain published Van Mersbergen's books.

In 2014 Cossee published The Last Escape which received great reviews and had to be reprinted soon after its publication. It was awarded the F. Bordewijk Prize for best Dutch fiction and received a nomination for the AKO Literature Prize 2014. In 2016 his novel The Rider was published and nominated for the Dutch Booksellers' Award. The Unexpected Wealth of Altena appeared in 2019, and A Good Mother in 2021. Van Mersbergen is currently writing his 12th novel for Cossee, which will appear November 2023.
