Pieter Webeling (1965) was Chief Editor of the opinion magazine HP/De Tijd and he conducts interviews for de Volkskrant, Rails, Jan and Humo. He wrote a book of essays called The Five Great Emotions and in 2008 his debut novel Forty Days was published. As part of his research for The Book of Laughter and Death, Webeling interviewed survivors of the German concentration camps. He also discussed the comical content of the book with the prominent contemporary Dutch comedian Youp van ‘t Hek.
Translation rights for The Book of Laughter and Death have been sold to Germany and Norway. The book was the key literary title for the 2013 fall catalogue of Blessing Verlag. And the film rights have been bought by German based producer Made in Munich Film.
